Unifeeder in High Spirits

The Scottish whisky industry had a hard time ensuring steady deliveries to the Baltic countries before Unifeeder launched its UK service in June 2010. A cooperation between TPC Freight Management and Unifeeder makes life easier for both the Scottish whisky industry and consumers some 1,800 km away.

The challenge
As wealth increases in the Baltics and Russia, so does demand for high quality spirits like Scotch whisky. But fluctuations in volumes for seasonal and market reasons had meant variable transit times and volatile transportation costs leading to a lack of competitiveness for the Scottish made products.

Freight specialist TPC identified an urgent need for stable, regular and reliable connections to European ports that would give their clients in the Scottish whisky industry improved access to the Baltic markets.

Unifeeder solved the problem
The launch of Unifeeder’s UK services in June 2010 marked the start of a cooperation between Unifeeder and TPC. Arrivals and departures to and from the east coast ports of Grangemouth, Felixstowe, Immingham, Teesport and South Shields with three vessels per week created a unique link to the Baltics and Russia that had not been available before, and that had not been possible without Unifeeder’s interconnected UK and Baltic network. The vessels pass through the Hamburg and Rotterdam hubs before they reach their final destinations.

Steady stream
Unifeeder and TPC have joined forces to give the major players in the whisky industry a truly secure and well established supply chain and the benefit of paying for no more than the capacity they use.

Whisky galore
Because growing prosperity means increased demand, TPC expects the countries around the Baltic Sea and Russia to be a market of expansion for more Scottish products. Unifeeder has connections into St. Petersburg and the Baltic countries several times a week.
